Male Sexual Dysfunction causes and treatment with natural supplements and herbs, influence of dietary foods
Male sexual dysfunction occurs more often with aging. One reason is a decline in testosterone levels. However, testosterone replacement has many side effects, including the potential risk of cancer, particularly prostate cancer. Natural alternatives may be a good option.Passion Rx --- Medical

Types of male sexual dysfunction
There are many
factors that can cause male
sexual dysfunction. Men with sexual dysfunction can be
classified under several categories. These would include a lack of sexual
desire, difficulty with orgasm, difficulty in getting aroused, and
difficulty with erectile function or maintaining an erection long enough to
please a partner.
Treating male sexual dysfunction
All aspects of male sexual dysfunction, such as
arousal, desire, erection and orgasm, can be enhanced with the use of natural
herbs. Most men will notice a benefit from herbal
sex enhancers or a product that has a combination of sex herbs. Passion Rx can help many men. Additional sex
herbs that can counter male sexual dysfunction include Muira Puama, Horny
goat weed,
Mucuna pruriens,
Tribulus, and Tongkat ali.
There is need for collaboration between healthcare practitioners
from different disciplines in the evaluation, treatment, and education issues
surrounding sexual dysfunction. In many cases, neither psychotherapy alone nor
medical intervention alone is sufficient for the lasting resolution of such
problems. The assessment of male, female, and couples' sexual dysfunction should
ideally include inquiry about predisposing, precipitating, maintaining, and
contextual factors. Research is needed to identify efficacious combined and/or
integrated treatments.
Male
Sexual Dysfunction
and medical conditions
Certain medical conditions cause
male sexual dysfunction. These include hypertension, diabetes,
high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, neurologic disorders, and
chronic insomnia.
Treatment for male sexual dysfunction depends on the diagnosis and therapy for
the particular condition causing the problem.
Finasteride ( Proscar,
Propecia ) as cause of male sexual dysfunction
Male sexual dysfunction such as erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, and
ejaculation disorders have been consistent side effects of finasteride use.
Finasteride is used for hair growth as Propecia, and for the treatment of
prostate enlargement in the form of Proscar which has 5 mg of the drug. Propeica
has 1 mg of finasteride and causes less frequent sexual side effects. Avodart is
also another drug used for hair loss and prostate enlargement which is known to
cause male sexual dysfunction.
SSRI drugs as cause of male
sexual dysfunction
SSRI drugs such as Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft are a common cause of male sexual
dysfunction due to elevation of serotonin levels. Serotonin has an inhibitory
effect on sexual urge and desire.
Antipsychotic drugs as cause for
male sexual dysfunction
In 30 to 60% of men who take antipsychotic drugs, the use of these medications
is linked to male sexual dysfunction such as decrease in libido, lubrication
problems, impotence, and orgasm disorders.

Phosphodiasterase type 5 inhibitors (sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil) are the
first line symptomatic therapy for patients with erectile dysfunction. The
patient should receive a meticolous information on the use of these drugs and
their possible side effects. These drugs are safe and can be used even in
patients with stable cardiovascular disease. Patients not responding to oral
drugs may be offered intraurethral or intracavernous alprostadil. Vacuum
constriction devices are a second line option more acceptable to older patients.
Penile prosthesis are very seldom used in Switzerland and vascular surgery is a
vanishing option. Testosterone substitution is seldom needed in this setting.
Treatment of premature ejaculation subdivides into behavioural therapy
("stop-start" or "squeeze" technique) and drug therapy as well. Topical therapy
with lidocaine / prilocaine containing medications to be applied before sexual
intercourse and a oral daily off label use therapy with selective serotonin
re-uptake inhibitors (paroxetine, fluoxetine, sertraline) can be offered.
Dapoxetine, a potent selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor with short half life
time, is the first officially approved medication for the treatment of premature
ejaculation and should be available soon in Switzerland.
